Target audiences
The idea of target audiences really caught my eye this week regarding a commercial I saw for the new kindle fire. I touched upon the details of the commercial in this weeks discussion board so ill just summarize it briefly here. A man is speaking to a woman on vacation about her kindle and decides to order one for himself, he asks her to celebrate his new purchase and she responds with my husband is bringing me a drink now, the man then replies with "mine too!". The man and the woman turn around and wave to their two men at the bar behind them. This really got me thinking about the audience they are attempting to target and the audiences they would offend in doing so. It is a very bold approach to a commercial, one that will make many happy to see and others not so happy but I believe it is the right step in advertisements to come.

So I haven't seen this commercial, but I'm very curious about it. I share your sentiment in that it's a good step forward in advertising. I'm guessing Amazon thought very hard about airing this ad and the risk they might be taking. It's very possible that they lost customers because of this, because unfortunately, some people just will not be associated with homosexuality.
